My first Iftar dinner

My husband and I moved to Abu Dhabi so early so we could experience Ramadan.  One of the most exciting times of the day here is during Iftar, when Muslims break their fast during Ramadan. So NYU-Abu Dhabi held a faculty and staff family Iftar dinner tonight.  It was amazing!  More food and varieties of food you could imagine. I had no idea what some of it was but it was delicious.  I watched in amazement as many of our staff and security guards downed heaping plates of food and then quickly went to pray afterwards in a room nearby. I was amazed they could get all of that food in but they did!    It was an experience to behold indeed! I also read the news that in Dubai alone there were 441 car accidents because the Muslim drivers wanted to get something eat as soon as Iftar started.  I found this astounding but I guess I would drive erratically if I didn't have something to eat all day either.
